From outside, access requires using the handle when unlocked or a key when the deadbolt is engaged. From inside, the panic function allows both latchbolt and deadbolt to retract simultaneously by pressing the handle, even when locked, ensuring immediate escape during emergencies. A key is required to re-lock the deadbolt.
