Usage
The Tormek T-8 water-cooled sharpener is designed for precision sharpening of edge tools such as chisels, knives, scissors, woodturning tools, and planer blades in workshops or professional environments.
Advantages
- Water-cooled system prevents overheating and preserves tool temper during sharpening
- Fully cast zinc housing provides high rigidity and minimal vibration for precise results
- Universal Support with patented mounts ensures repeatable accuracy with all compatible jigs
- EzyLock main shaft enables fast, tool-free grinding wheel changes and consistent torque application
- The machine’s weight (approx. 14.8 kg) may reduce portability but enhances stability during use
Specifications
- The frame is made from cast zinc with ABS plastic sides; the grindstone is aluminum oxide (250×50 mm), and the shaft is stainless steel using EzyLock technology for wheel changes[1][6][8][10]
- Built for continuous operation with an industrial AC motor rated at 200 W, maintenance-free design, and a noise level of just 54 dB; compliant with long-life standards (25,000-hour service life)[1][6]
- Sharpening speed: approximately 90–100 rpm; torque: up to 14.7 Nm; supports multiple grindstones including options from coarse to superfine finishes[1][6][10]
- Differentiators include a height-adjustable water trough with magnetic scraper for easy cleanup, MicroAdjust angle setting on Universal Support, included jigs (e.g., SE-77), honing compound applicator PA-70, stone grader SP-650, handbook HB-10[1][6][7]
How it works
The Tormek T-8 operates by rotating its large grindstone at low speed through water. Tools are guided by precision jigs on a Universal Support bar while the rotating stone sharpens their edges safely without overheating. After grinding, honing is performed on a leather wheel to achieve a fine finish.[1][8]
