Usage
This closed-cell round backing rod, 10mm in diameter and supplied in a 600-meter reel, is designed as a filler or support for sealant joints in window frames, façades, and expansion joints. Suitable for both new construction and renovation projects.
Advantages
- Prevents excessive sealant consumption by optimally filling deep gaps before sealing.
- Closed-cell polyethylene foam resists moisture absorption and supports long-term joint integrity.
- Flexible structure makes installation easy across uneven substrates or varying joint widths.
- Chemically neutral material does not react with most commercial sealants used in glazing or façade systems.
- The continuous length of 600 meters minimizes waste and allows uninterrupted application on large projects.
Specifications
- Material: Closed-cell expanded polyethylene foam with stable structure for dimensional consistency.
- Lifespan & Standards: Designed for durability within concealed sealant joints; chemically inert; typically compatible with building industry standards for frame sealing solutions.
- Dimensions & Performance: Diameter: approximately Ø10 mm. Supplied as a continuous roll of approximately 600 meters. Does not absorb water, ensuring reliable performance even under varying humidity conditions.
- Differentiating Feature: The closed-cell design ensures air- and watertightness when installed behind the visible face of the sealant bead, supporting optimal movement accommodation within the joint system over time.
How it works
The round backing rod is inserted into the prepared joint gap prior to applying elastic sealants. It serves as a depth control element that shapes the back of the applied sealant bead while preventing three-point adhesion, thereby optimizing movement accommodation and final joint performance.
