Usage
The Petzl handled rope ascender is designed for efficient and secure vertical progress on a fixed rope, making it essential for climbing, caving, rescue operations, and access work at height.
Advantages
- Ergonomic overmolded handle offers a comfortable grip and powerful traction with one or two hands, even when wearing gloves.
- Tubular cam with self-cleaning slot ensures smooth operation on wet, icy, or dirty ropes.
- Wide lower attachment hole enables easy connection of two carabiners for lanyard and foot loop integration.
- Integrated safety catch prevents accidental snagging while keeping the device securely positioned on the rope.
- Available in left- and right-handed versions to suit user preference; relatively lightweight construction can be a minor drawback in extreme ultra-lightweight applications.
Specifications
- Constructed from durable aluminum, stainless steel, plastic, rubber, and nylon materials for optimized strength-to-weight ratio.
- Lifespan enhanced by robust build quality and components; certified to CE EN 567, CE EN 12841 type B, UKCA, EAC standards.
- Total weight: approximately 165 g. Rope compatibility: suitable for diameters from 8 to 13 mm.
- Differentiating features include an ergonomic molded handle design with wide opening (usable with thick gloves), self-cleaning cam mechanism for reliable performance in harsh conditions (muddy or frozen ropes), large lower attachment point accommodating dual connectors. Available in both left- or right-hand models.
How it works
The ascension device attaches directly onto the vertical rope. Its toothed cam engages as you advance upward—sliding smoothly when pushed up but locking instantly under downward load—allowing confident progression while preventing back-sliding during climbs or technical rescues.
