Usage
The universal combined tap with 1/4" hex shank and M6 thread is designed for fast creation of metric threads in steel, non-ferrous metals, and plastics using cordless electric drills or vertical drill presses in assembly or small series work.
Advantages
- Compatible with standard 1/4" hex drives for quick tool changes.
- Allows tapping with both manual and electric reversible drills.
- Suitable for through holes up to a maximum thread depth of one diameter (1 x D).
- Cuts threads efficiently in materials up to 600 N/mm² tensile strength.
- A precise alignment is required for best results; not recommended for blind holes deeper than one diameter.
Specifications
- Design: Combined tap, hexagonal shank (1/4"), M6 thread size, total length approximately 44 mm.
- Material compatibility: Steel, non-ferrous metals, plastics (up to 600 N/mm²); suitable for use with standard cutting oils.
- Tapping performance: For creating metric threads in predrilled through holes up to depth = diameter; optimized for small batch production and on-site repair tasks.
- Differentiator: Enables straightforward tapping operations without separate tap wrenches; usable on various machines including hand-held drills and drill presses when equipped with reverse function.
How it works
This combined tap is inserted into the chuck of a compatible tool. When placed squarely over a correctly sized pilot hole, the user operates the drill at low speed while applying cutting oil. The tap cuts new threads as it advances into the material; reversing extracts the tool cleanly after threading is complete. Accurate alignment ensures optimal results during use.
