Usage
The Abloy EL460 mortise solenoid lock is designed for secure access control on interior and exterior profile doors in commercial buildings, offices, public facilities, and medium-traffic fire-rated zones. Suitable for both new installations and retrofits.
Advantages
- Selectively controls access from one side with electrical activation while always allowing free exit from the inside (antipanic feature).
- Self-locking function ensures the deadbolt automatically engages when the door closes, securing two locking points.
- Can be configured as either fail-locked or fail-unlocked to meet safety requirements.
- Monitors multiple statuses including bolt position, handle use, and door status via integrated contacts.
- Suits fire-resistant doors (EN1634-1 certified) but cannot be used with automated door openers.
Specifications
- Design: Mortise lock case with split spindle mechanism; stainless steel faceplate; Europrofile cylinder compatibility; suitable for narrow profiles (35 mm backset).
- Durability & Certifications: Compliant with EN14846 (electric locks), EN179 (emergency exits), EN1125 (panic exits), EN1634-1 (fire resistance); operational temperature range: -20°C to +60°C.
- Performance Metrics:
• Operating voltage: 12–24 V DC
• Idle current: approx. 130 mA at 12 V DC / approx. 65 mA at 24 V DC
• Deadbolt throw: 20 mm
• Backset options: 30 mm, 35 mm standard;
• Forend width: 24 mm;
• Spindle size: 9 mm (8 mm with adapter)
• Weight: approx. 1.3 kg
- Differentiating Features:
– Outside handle electrically controlled; inside handle always mechanically operational
– Multiple monitoring outputs for integration into access management systems
How it works
The EL460 uses a solenoid mechanism to enable or disable outside handle operation based on electrical signals from an access control device such as a card reader or keypad. The inside handle always unlocks the door mechanically, ensuring free egress in emergencies while maintaining security when required by configuration settings.
